We are delighted to be one of the three finalists in the Export to Excellence category of the e-Assessment Awards 2019.

e-Assessment Awards 2019 Finalists Laser Learning

The e-Assessment awards programme was launched in October 2016 to highlight and celebrate the outstanding and positive contributions that technology makes to all forms of assessment, and has gone on to showcase the best practice, research and innovation in the sector.

The awards programme holds a unique position, as it encompasses all sectors of education; from schools, through further and higher education to workplace training and professional exams.

The six sets of finalists were shortlisted by six separate panels of highly experienced, international experts.”

The winners will be announced at the gala dinner on the 10th April and we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all those who have been nominated.

Laser Learning Year in Review 2018

End of Year Review – 2018

New Lessons in 2018

The content team has been working hard to add new short courses and qualifications with lessons to the laser this year. In total, we added 15 new short courses and 17 new qualifications.

Highlights include:

  • The new CACHE STL suite, which has increased in size and the scope has changed to include learners providing support in colleges. It has also been updated to include radicalisation, mental health, and e-safety.
  • L1 Certificate in Well-being, which encourages learners to make healthy lifestyle choices and support others to do the same. Find out more by watching our webinar on areas of well-being.
  • L3 Award for Special Educational Needs Coordinators in Early Years Settings, which covers the role and responsibilities of the SENCo, strategies and techniques for supporting children and their families (including the local offer, EHC plans, and the graduated approach), principles, guidance and legislation underpinning practice for children with SEND in early years settings, and English as an Additional Language (EAL)
  • L5 Diploma in Education and Training, which prepares trainee teachers to teach in a wide range of contexts. The qualification covers planning and developing schemes of work, delivering learning sessions, developing teaching and learning strategies, and assessment practices. Find out more by watching a webinar presented by Laser and NCFE.
  • Teaching Assistant bundle, a new bundle of short courses perfect for learning support practitioners who work with students of all ages to ensure individual needs are met. The bundle covers developing English and Maths skills, promoting positive behaviour, working in partnership on Assessment for Learning, and contributing to learning activities.

When writing lessons for qualifications, we add lessons for all mandatory units and make sure there are enough optional units to achieve the minimum credits, with a handful more for choice and variety.

Feel free to get in contact with us if you would like to chat about the new courses or want any added to your Laser.

All of us continue to be inspired by each centre’s enthusiasm and passion when it comes to providing the best possible training for their staff from entry level to management.

What’s Happening in 2019?

In January, we will be attending the NMT Agenda (South) in Basingstoke to meet with nursery managers from across the UK.

We will also be guests to support Professor Pat Preedy, Kay Sanderson, and Sir Christopher Ball at the launch of their new book Early Childhood Education Redefined.

In February, Vivette will be back in Dubai to exhibit at the GESS exhibition alongside NCFE CACHE. If you would like to book some time with Vivette while she is in Dubai, please get in touch.

International Assessment and Qualifications

International observations for assessing and IQA qualifications now delivered remotely

Our Laser Systems assessment and IQA team have been working in partnership with NCFE CACHE for some time now to deliver qualifications and training to international centres across the UAE.

Ensuring the quality of the training and assessment process meets NCFE CACHE standards is of the upmost importance and we have always taken great pride in working closely with NCFE CACHE to actively promote this across the UK and internationally.

Until now, one way to demonstrate this understanding of quality has been to ensure that all observations that take place as part of qualification assessment are done face-to-face between the assessor and the learner. This has meant previously that we have only been able to provide assessor or IQA training to those who our team would be able to visit in country, and therefore some potential learners have not been able to achieve their qualification because this visit has not been possible, due to cost and time restraints of international travel.

As with our Laser e-portfolio and Laser Lessons online learning resources, our aim has always been to provide the best possible learning experience for every learner using flexible and accessible online delivery. Our many years of experience creating online learning resources has meant we know how to ensure quality through online delivery while also allowing each learner to feel they have control over their learning and that they can access everything they need in one place at any time they choose.

Approaching the idea of online observation has been a rigorous process to ensure that it is the right solution to give all international learners the opportunity to gain their assessor or IQA qualification while also being certain that it maintains the quality of delivery and assessment expected by NCFE CACHE.

Both Laser Systems and NCFE CACHE, after careful analysis and in-depth evaluation, have agreed that online observations following strict auditable processes are the right solution for us to provide assessor and IQA qualifications and training to international clients. This means that we are now able to observe and assess learners using online virtual face-to-face, rather than in country face-to-face, observations. We are pleased to be working with NCFE CACHE to meet this need and to continue to deliver qualifications to further improve the quality of teaching, learning and assessment across the UAE and worldwide.

Our reputation for qualifications, training, and support, as well as our relationships with CACHE and other leading establishments in the UAE have been instrumental in bringing this solution to our international clients and we are both thankful and excited to be able to nurture more assessors and IQAs in the near future.

If you are an international centre looking for assessor or IQA training or would like to find out more about becoming a CACHE centre, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
